“Iām still not a gym person ā but I genuinely look forward to these sessions.” ā Emma Shubrook | 48 | Wrenbury | Solicitor
Emma is a 48-year-old solicitor from Wrenbury who spends much of her day sat at a desk with her little dog by her side. Before joining MEE-FIT, Emma was managing her health with dog walks and yoga, but she was struggling with perimenopause fatigue and long-term lower back problems that were absolutely draining.
The Challenge
Emmaās back pain had been ongoing for years. Even after a nerve root injection and extensive physio, she still felt weak.
Her physio eventually told her straight: she needed to build strength. On top of that, coming off HRT for a month had left her even more exhausted.
Despite knowing strength training would help, Emma had always resisted the idea. Traditional gyms felt intimidating, full of loud music, cardio machines, and 20-somethings flexing for Instagram ā not her world at all.
Why She Nearly Didnāt Start
Emma admits she was sceptical.
Sheād tried a gym years ago and hated the atmosphere. She worried about hurting herself again, especially with her hypermobile joints and history of back issues.
It was only when she saw an advert for MEE-FIT, aimed at women her age and focused on strength, that she thought, āMaybe this could work for me.ā
The Turning Point
From her very first small group coaching session, Emma noticed a difference.
The atmosphere felt welcoming, not overwhelming. Coaches kept a close eye on her, offering bespoke tweaks for her back and hypermobility, which gave her confidence she wouldnāt injure herself.
Instead of feeling lost in a huge gym space, Emma felt safe, supported, and motivated. She even began recognising familiar faces quickly, which made it feel more like a community than a gym.
The Results
In just six weeks, Emma has noticed huge changes:
-
ā Stronger overall and lifting heavier weights than she ever thought possible
-
ā More balanced energy throughout the day, without the dreaded mid-afternoon crash
-
ā A stronger sense of trust in her body and what it can do
Hereās what Emma had to say:
āSince I started here, Iāve definitely noticed my energyās better. I think I trust my body a bit more. I feel stronger overall. And Iāve lifted heavier weights than I ever thought I could ā for someone whoās never been very strong, thatās a big deal.ā
