“Lost 3 Stone, Reversed Diabetes Risk & Found a Gym That Finally Works” - Ken Holford | 49 | Whitchurch | Finance Sector
Ken’s Story
*“I’d always been into fitness—at one point, cycling kept me in great shape. But life got in the way. Work, family, stress—I let it all pile up, and before I knew it, I’d gained a lot of weight.
I hit a turning point at the end of last year. I was approaching 50, and I didn’t want to be ‘fat at 50.’ On January 1st, I weighed 18.5 stone. I knew I had to do something.
I started by improving my diet—cutting out processed foods and focusing on real meals. That helped, but as the weight loss slowed, I knew I needed more. I looked at gyms but didn’t want to fall into the same old trap: walking in, doing a few random exercises, and leaving without real progress. I thought about personal training but didn’t like the idea of 1-to-1 attention. That’s when I found MEE-FIT.
At first, I was intimidated. The place looked so impressive online, and I assumed everyone there would be super fit. But after speaking to Dan, my misconceptions were gone. I took the plunge—and it was the best decision I could have made.
Training here completely changed my focus. At first, I was obsessed with losing weight, but as I got stronger and saw my body shape change, I cared more about that than the number on the scales. And then I got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.
That hit me hard. My mum had it, my sister had it—I was furious. But the doctor gave me hope: if I worked hard, I could reverse it. That became my mission.
MEE-FIT helped me tailor my training to fight diabetes head-on. In just three months, I went from full diabetic to one point away from being out of the risk zone. My doctor was blown away by my progress and told me to keep doing exactly what I’m doing.
Beyond the health improvements, MEE-FIT has changed my mindset. I used to feel isolated working from home all day—now I have something to look forward to. I’ve built real friendships here, and the sense of community is incredible. The accountability keeps me on track, and the coaches genuinely care.
I’ve lost 3 stone, gained strength, done my first-ever pull-up, and, most importantly, put my health back in my own hands.
If you’re hesitant about joining, here’s my advice: just get through the first 2-3 sessions. That’s when it clicks. You’ll see the variety of people here, feel the support, and realize this isn’t just a gym—it’s a place where you belong.
For the first time in years, I feel in control of my health. And I’m never going back.”*
